Tottenham Hotspur edge Manchester City in a thriller at the Etihad

Tottenham Hotspur produced a spectacular performance to defeat Manchester City and turn what was looking like a procession into a contest for the Premier League title.

Coming into the game on the back of a three match losing streak in the league, Antonio Conte’s men upset the odds as they recorded a domestic double over the reigning champions for the first time since the 89/90 season.

Tottenham Hotspur took the lead against the run of play in the fourth minute when Heung Min Son raced on to a through ball from Harry Kane and set up Dejan Kulusevski for the opener.

Responding with waves of attacks on the Tottenham goal, Manchester levelled in the 33rd minute as skipper Ilkay Gundogan tapped in a loose ball following poor handling of a Raheem Sterling’s cross by Hugo Lloris.

Harry Kane restored Tottenham’s lead in the 59th minute arriving deep into the Manchester City’s 18 yard box to finishing a cross from Heung Min Son.

Kane had a goal correctly ŕuled out as Kulusevski was offside when he received a cross field pass from Ben Davies and this drew rapturous applause from the home supporters as they urged thier team to continue to put pressure on the opposition goal.

Manchester City thought they had rescued a point in the 92nd minute when Riyadh Mahrez converted a spot kick awarded by referee Anthony Taylor following VAR intervention as Cristian Romero was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area.

However, on one last attack Harry Kane snatched a 95th minute winner for the visitors rising above Kyle Walker to head in a chipped cross from the impressive Kulusevski.

The defeat, City’s first in the league since October, 2021 in a home loss to Crystal Palace leaves them six points ahead of Liverpool at the top of the standings with the Merseysiders having played a game less.
